Banyan Communications has been selected to continue supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED) as a strategic communications and creative partner. The contract award was recently reported by OrangeSlices Fed Health following a competitive process.

DFWED works to protect people from health threats related to food, water, and the environment — threats that can emerge and change quickly, such as diseases caused by contaminated food, water, animal contact, and fungi. Communicating about these issues requires more than getting information out. It requires understanding audiences, translating complex science into clear and actionable information, and reaching people where and when they need it.

That's been at the heart of our work with DFWED for the past four years.

Together, we've developed evidence-based, audience-first communications designed to reach communities that may be particularly affected by these threats — including parents of young children, pregnant people, people who are immunocompromised, professionals whose jobs may put them at increased risk, and healthcare providers.

And we've had some fun along the way.

Our work has included everything from original public health communications research to creative Public Service Announcements like the CDC Coops video series. These PSAs reached audiences across the country and earned both a CDC Director's Award and Telly Award recognition.

More recently, Banyan researchers co-authored  a peer-reviewed article with DFWED that appeared in the Journal of Environmental Health, examining how U.S. adults understand and respond to freshwater harmful algal blooms — work that helps turn audience insights and rigorous research into an effective communications strategy.

Different projects, same goal: make complex public health information easier to understand, trust, and act on.

We're proud of what we've built with DFWED over the past four years, and even more excited about what's ahead — continuing to research, test, create, innovate, and prepare early for the communications needs to protect people and families from future disease threats.

Here's to continuing the work — and creating change for good.
