Banyan Co-Authors Research on Harmful Algal Bloom Communications

Banyan's Bria Berry, MPH, Research & Evaluation Specialist, is a co-author on a peer-reviewed manuscript now published in the Journal of Environmental Health. The article Freshwater Harmful Algal Blooms and Health: Awareness, Behaviors, Perceptions, and Communication Preferences Among U.S. Adults appears in Volume 88, Issue 7.

The work was conducted in partnership with CDC's Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED), which works to protect the public from diseases spread through food, water, and the environment. The manuscript examines public awareness, risk perceptions, behaviors, and communication preferences related to freshwater harmful algal blooms, an environmental and public health issue with growing stakes for communities across the country.

Bria's contributions were foundational. She played a major role in data collection and analysis and led the drafting of the methods and results sections that carried this work from research to publication.

That progression from raw data to peer-reviewed findings to communications strategy is exactly where Banyan operates. We help translate rigorous research into clear, accessible, actionable information for the audiences who need it most.
